Workshop · 4 hours · private group

Traditional bow building.

Gather hazel, rough out a stave and shape your own bow with knife, axe and saw.

A guide in a great kilt shows a group how to work a hazel stave in autumn woodland

What you'll do

The bow is one of the oldest tools people ever made. In this private workshop you gather hazel, rough out a stave and shape your own bow with the simple hand tools people relied on for thousands of years: knife, axe and saw.

Jason guides you step by step, with a strong focus on safe tool use, so you don't need any woodworking experience. It's unhurried, hands-on work in the Highland outdoors, and a rare chance to understand how a bow really works by making one yourself.
